Tokyo Joe’s

Richardson | TX

GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, GREAT ATMOSPHERE. Each new JOE's location is designed to reinforce their core mantra of EAT GOOD. FEEL GOOD. With a 'big idea' contextually rooted in the neighborhood, our design approach seeks to communicate the JOE’S values through a series of elements that abstractly reference the notions of healthy, fresh, and clean while subtly stimulating the senses for a REFRESHED, REVIVED and REFUELED feeling. These ideas are explored and celebrated in the following ways:

Large-scale insertions, derived from abstractions of the traditional Japanese bento, transform the mundane suburban box by creating connections to the ideas of travel, movement, and escape.

Natural and raw materials such as concrete, bamboo and steel are utilized to reinforce the value and healthy aspect of the menu.

Kinetic shapes and forms further reinforce the notion of movement, giving each space a unique identity and energy. Industrial fabrications and exposed infrastructure systems are juxtaposed with elegant, oversized lanterns and custom furniture to further recall the notion of a value-driven and healthy lifestyle.

Common among all restaurants in our Family is a 'visual branding' with a consistency of image based on the utilization of a similar material palette, formal language and organizational principals. Variety within this desired consistency is established by exploring scale with geometric and volumetric juxtapositions relative to the pragmatic organizational diagram.
